Summary
What types of lesions do you get from this list? Here we have:
- Blackheads
- Whiteheads
- Papules
- Pustules
- Nodules
- Cysts
Let’s talk about each and then how they’re treated.
Blackheads
Blackheads are pores clogged with skin oil and dead skin cells but these pores stay open giving the black colour and are non-inflammatory.
Whiteheads
These are also non-inflammatory and are clogged pores, the pore on these are closed off however.
Papules
These are inflammatory, these occur when the pores breakdown from excessive inflammation. These become clogged pores that are very sensitive.
Pustules
Pustules are similar to papules except they are filled with pus and normally have yellow or white heads on top.
Nodules
Nodules are deeper than papules and pustules and these are therefore harder to treat, these can be very sore and form part of more severe acne.
Cysts
Cysts occur very deep within the skin and even deeper than nodules. They are the largest red or white bumps and occur from severe infection. These are again harder to treat and most likely to scar.
Treatment
So, how do we treat each? For blackheads, whiteheads, papules, and pustules these can be treated with a good quality treatment cream like Aqneeq and tretinoin. Whereas for nodules and cysts, these will likely need more aggressive treatment like isotretinoin, laser treatment, or oral antibiotics.
